About this Event

This Four-Part course is facilitated by international meditation teacher, Venerable Vimalaramsi Mahathero, originally from America but currently teaching in Arpola-GOA, India. This course aims to help participants in continuing their Buddhist practice and creating more harmony within their relationships, which may have been difficult during the COVID-19 lockdown period. Students from all around the world are invited to participate.

The series is presented on Zoom over a two week period. Each session will start with a short Q&A Capsule by Ven. Khanti Khema, followed by Ven. Bhante Vimalaramsi presenting a one hour talk.

Participants who have any questions arising from the talk are invited to email their questions to sisterkhema@dhammasukha.org following the talk with the subject line: “SERIES TALK ONE QUESTION”. Bhante’s answers to your question will be sent to you by email.

Course Outline:
Friday 22 May: What is Buddhist Meditation?

The first session begins with Ven. Khanti Khema talking briefly about how we can use the Four Noble Truths within our own meditation and carry this over into solving day to day problems. Bhante Vimalaramsi will then describe what the Buddha’s original objective in meditation could have meant as described in the early texts and how you can test its use for yourself by repeating this same practice for yourself. This is an invitation for you to explore this and apply it in your life.

Sunday 24 May: What is Mindfulness?

Bhante Vimalaramsi discusses the connection between mindfulness and meditation, by refining what Mindfulness actually is, and how it can be used as a day to day tool in life to find more peace and calmness in our relationships. If we keep the practice going all the time within our life, the Buddha reveals how we can keep our mind lighter and sharper for a more productive and happier life.

Friday 29 May: What is the Noble Eightfold Path?

Bhante reveals what is the Eightfold Noble Path as described in the Suttas and the higher meaning that can help us carry all of the path factors into lives more fully, and why we should do this.

Sunday 31 May: How can we practice throughout the day as we can stop reacting and start responding instead?

This session will explore what happens when you take your Samatha and Vipassana knowledge, yoke them together and begin living the teaching you have heard from the Buddha. We will explore how practicing the Tranquil Wisdom Insight Meditation as taught by Bhante Vimalaramsi can help us find more peace in life and how to keep our practice going.
