March 11, 2021 has been identified as an international day of action by communities of faith to demand strong action and climate justice, as part of the lead up to COP 26 in Glasgow in November, and the Sydney Buddhist Centre has decided to actively participate.
The Sacred People, Sacred Earth initiative has been kick started by Greenfaith International in the USA. In Australia it is being coordinated by ARRCC (the Australian Religious Response to Climate Change) and the Buddhist Council of NSW.
It will be the biggest ever global faith-based Day of Climate Action.
The Sydney Buddhist centre will anchor a public meditation action on Thursday 11 March commencing at 11am (arrive from 10.30). The public meditation will be outside Newtown railway station to meditate in support of compassion for all impacted communities and species, and in hope for wisdom by decision makers throughout Australia.
We will be using banners and posters on the day to identify our sangha, our values and our hopes for action to end the climate catastrophe. It will be a good opportunity to show your support for climate justice. Please create a personal expression of your alarm for the climate and bring it along. We will be photographing and publicising the action so please make it as colourful and heartfelt as you wish!
Please bring a cushion or stool – and perhaps one to loan – as we will welcome passers-by to join us.
If you would like further information, please feel free to contact Gillian Reffell (0466510501) who will coordinate the morning. If you would like to participate, perhaps by leading a meditation or with an appropriate reading or chant you would be most welcome – in fact you are warmly invited!
Please RSVP for numbers (Covid) and for further information as the day approaches.
