Buddhists use the phrase “go for refuge” or “take refuge” because refuge is an active process. It is a fundamental step where we commit ourselves to the Buddhist path. Refuge in Buddhism is about changing our state of mind. This means deepening our understanding of what gives life purpose, and what will bring us happiness now and in the future.
Geshe Samten will give a brief teaching on what it means to take refuge and vows of individual liberation and offer refuge to those who wish to formalise their commitment to following the Buddhist path.
Those interested in receiving the teaching but not wishing to take refuge at this time are welcome to attend
