Geshe Zopa is a much-loved former resident teacher of Kunsang Yeshe and a highly respected teacher internationally. Geshela’s return to the Blue Mountains is part of his ‘Loving Kindness’ tour in Australia.  The dates for the Blue Mountains event are Thursday 22 June, Friday 23 June, Sunday 25 June and Monday 26 June.

The event will be held at the Hotel Mountain Heritage, which is only a few minutes’ walk from Katoomba Station. We have allowed 1.5 hours at lunchtime for attendees to enjoy a lunch at one of the many cafes in nearby Katoomba. Hotel Mountain Heritage is a very comfortable venue with spectacular views of the Mountains. Here are the titles of the teachings:

Maintaining Open-Heartedness During Troubled Times – Thursday 22 June
In this workshop you will learn how to expand your mind and heart to connect to others with loving-kindness, even during the most fearful times.

Cultivating Loving Kindness by Cutting Through Ego: The Wheel of Sharp Weapons – Friday 23 June

‘Self-cherishing is the main enemy to bodhicitta (loving-kindness), which is what you need to achieve enlightenment and to enlighten all sentient beings.”

Practices to Transform our Negative Karma – Sunday 25 June
In this workshop you will find out more about karma, and explore practices, such as the Vajrasattva meditation, that can be used on a daily basis to purify our negativities.

Become Your Own Therapist – Monday 26 June
In this workshop we will learn how to identify and reconfigure our disturbing emotions.

Each workshop is from 10.00 – 3.30pm. Registrations open from 9.30am each day. Morning and afternoon tea will be provided and there will be a 1.5-hour lunch break each day. The KYRC Centre is a short walk away at 116 Bathurst Street, Katoomba.

We encourage you to book early for this special event.

About Geshe Zopa

Geshe Tenzin Zopa was born in 1972 in the Tsum Valley in Nepal and is a Tibetan Buddhist monk of the Mahayana tradition. He is known by the title Geshe, which is Tibetan for professor of Buddhist philosophy. He entered Sera Jey University in 1990 to undertake extensive studies in Tibetan Buddhist philosophy and graduated as a Geshe in 2007.

The highly esteemed late Geshe Lama Konchok became Geshe Zopa’s spiritual and temporal guardian when Geshe-la was three. The multi award-winning documentary ‘Unmistaken Child’ covers his search over 5 years for the recognised reincarnation of his late master.

Geshe-la entered Kopan Monastery in 1984 and was ordained as a monk. He became close to and received teachings from many high lamas across many different lineages. During his adult life Geshe Tenzin Zopa has worked for his close teacher, Kyabje Lama Zopa Rinpoche, who passed away in April of 2023, as an international touring Geshe with FPMT. He has taught extensively across the world.

Projects undertaken by Geshe-la include taking responsibility for the temporal and spiritual development of Rachen Nunnery and Mu Monastery, Tsum, Nepal and supervising the completion of the 1000 Buddha Relics Memorial Stupa at Kopan Monastery, Nepal. Geshe Tenzin Zopa is undertaking the important responsibility of overseeing the physical, mental and spiritual development of Tulku Tenzin Phuntsok Rinpoche, the unmistaken reincarnation of the late great mahasiddha Geshe Lama Konchog.
