This 4-week practical course led by Patricia Austin is designed for those who have been to an introductory course in Buddhist Mindfulness Meditation (such as those offered at the Buddhist Library). Experienced meditators are also welcome to attend to continue their practice in a supportive group setting.

The course will commence with a review of Buddhist meditation instructions according to the Satipatthana Sutta. Each meeting will have sitting and walking sessions. Additional Buddhist texts will be explored to provide a deeper knowledge of Buddhism.

There will be handouts and many opportunities for discussion to assist participants.

Registration is essential as numbers are limited.

Patricia Austin has been a Buddhist practitioner for over 20 years. Her meditation training is in the Burmese Theravada tradition. Buddhism is integral to her daily life. Patricia is a retired clinical psychologist who has previously worked in HIV/AIDS services and carried out research into the mental health of detained asylum seekers. For 19 years she worked at St Vincent’s Hospital in palliative care, providing psychological therapy to the bereaved. Patricia is married and lives in Sydney.

All Sessions by Donation (Dana) to the Buddhist Library. All donations to the Buddhist Library of $2 and over are tax deductible.

Dana is the traditional practice of generosity, the extending of one’s goodwill, which is fundamental to Buddhism and other spiritual traditions. The instructions and guidance for this course are offered without requesting a fee and it is up to individuals to determine the amount of dana they would like to offer. It can sometimes be easy to become confused when we are new to this and we wonder “how much should I give?” This is a relevant question in the material economy but an appropriate dana cannot be prescribed but requires sensitivity to its intent and awareness of the costs and expenses associated with organising a course.
