Presentation: “I have been freed from the self that pretends to be someone. And in becoming no one, I begin to live.” T.S. Eliot.
Welcome to an evening in which we will examine the construction of identity and reveal, conceptually and experientially, that which is formless and timeless, beyond suffering, obvious but elusive, familiar yet mysterious, unchanging… and to even fleetingly ‘be no-one, resting in nothing, going nowhere.’
This will be largely through the lens of Adviata, or Non Duality, an approach that predates Buddhism but is very much there in Zen and Mahayana – and even to some degree in social constructionism and post structuralism, models we will use in our deconstruction.
The ‘something like that’ is to help us avoid dogma and directly engage with the lived experience of the nondual, a sweet and invigorating movement away from the doubts, debates and defenses that characterize the conditioned self and the world of duality.
