A Time to Love
Devotion is from the heart; it’s not a rational thing. You can’t make yourself feel love or devotion just because you like the idea of it. It’s when you’re not attached, when your heart is open, receptive and free, that you begin to experience what pure love is. Loving-kindness, compassion, sympathetic joy, equanimity—these come from an empty mind; not from a sterile position of annihilating feeling, but from a heart that is not deluded, not blinded by ideas of self or others, or by passions of some kind or other.
When the heart is free from illusions of self, a loving quality arises in the pure joy of being. It’s not expected to last or be permanent. It is not to be made into anything. It’s just the natural way of things. So when you contemplate in that way, that is the way of faith and trust and devotion.

We welcome you to join us at the 2022 Mitra Retreat! Limited spots so get in quick!
This retreat is designed to help people, especially young adults (18-38), build their meditation and retreat experience, expand their understanding of a range of meditation practices and techniques, and grow their confidence to join other longer or more focused retreats.
We have joined hands with Metta Centre and Australian Engaged Buddhists (AEB) to bring to you a fantastic meditation “taster” retreat, where experienced teachers Tina Ng, David O’Rose and Venerable Bhante Tedjadhammo will be teaching a variety of meditations from Buddhist traditions.
These experienced teachers will introduce you to a range of meditation understandings, from the five hindrances to presence, and a range of meditation practices and maps of experience, from metta to non-duality.

Please join us for an unforgettable event. We’re planning something you won’t want to miss, and we hope to see you there.
Buddhist Counselling presents a unique opportunity for a one-day in-depth meditation retreat with Venerable Khyentse. Originally from the UK, Khyentse is a Buddhist monk residing in India who has trained under Tibetan masters for over two decades. This is his first official program in Australia. Integrated meditation is based on traditional Buddhist teachings and applied to a modern life. It’s about accessing our inner power in a way that anyone can master.

A Meditation Retreat in the Dzogchen Tradition
The essence of all Buddhist teachings is to arrive at lasting peace and happiness through transforming the mind. The Buddha taught the importance of recognizing the reality of suffering, abandoning its causes and that complete liberation is possible for each and every one of us.
We invite you to spend five days immersing yourself in the most ancient and direct stream of wisdom from within the Tibetan Buddhist tradition – one which shows us how to realize the innermost nature of our mind.
Join us in our buddhist temple by the park to:
- establish or deepen a daily meditation practice
- learn how to work with distractions and obstacles that may arise during your practice
- hear, contemplate and meditate on the essence of the Buddha’s teachings
- create space to experience genuine inner peace and contentment
- learn how to bring about lasting transformation in your life
- enjoy breaks and walking meditation in Camperdown Memorial Rest park next to our centre
You will be supported by experienced meditation teachers Dr Ian Gawler and Jane Gray, as well as receiving video teachings from Sogyal Rinpoche, a renowned master of the Tibetan Nyingma lineage and Dzogchen, or “Great Perfection”, tradition. Through presenting the Dzogchen approach that cuts to the essence of Buddha’s teachings, Rinpoche shows us who we really are: this unchanging, fundamental goodness or Buddha nature.
Each day will feature a rich yet spacious program of teachings, guided meditation, and time for reflection and discussion.
