The All-Encompassing Path to Enlightenment (AEPE) is the main study programme in Rigpa, for students of all levels: new, more advanced or in-between. This year, the AEPE will explore the main principles of the preliminary practices, called Ngöndro in Tibetan. Our most experienced Rigpa teachers will guide us through the key principles of the Ngöndro, helping us to explore these principles in a fresh, up-to-date, real life way, while preserving their authenticity.
These practices are a complete path in themselves and also the foundation for Vajrayana and Dzogchen practice, encompassing all the elements needed to prepare us to fully receive the Great Perfection teachings of Dzogchen, the highest and most direct stream of wisdom within the Tibetan Buddhist tradition. So no matter where we are on our path, the AEPE will support us in taking it to completion.

Friday Online Series
Speakers: Ven. Dr. Mahinda Thero and Ven Bakkula Thero (Online)
Every Fri 2 Aug -13 Dec | 7pm-8.00pm
Location: Online only (Link below)
Cost: Free, Donations welcomed
We experience the world through our minds. Do we realise that each moment is a new opportunity to perceive it differently? Do we understand that the world as we see it is a creation of our mind, shaped by our beliefs, experiences, and emotions? Science and technology have advanced significantly through our understanding of the external world, yet we have only begun to explore how our minds function. The mind is a tool we’ve had since birth, but without knowing how to use it properly, we often face day-to-day troubles and mental health issues.
This talk series offers a chance to delve deeper into the science of the mind. It will explain how perception occurs in our minds, how our beliefs shape our reality, and how mindfulness-awareness meditation can help us develop a deeper awareness of our mental processes. By following the core Buddhist principles of the mind, we can learn the underlying mechanism of negative thought patterns and emotions, which can guide us to achieve unconditional inner peace. The Venerables will offer an amazing opportunity for anyone seeking step-by-step guidance for release from the mental pressures that one experiences day in and day out.

Have you ever considered the practical implications of caring more about others than about yourself?
A bodhisattva is someone who says, from the depth of their heart, ‘I long to attain a state of everlasting peace and happiness, in which all suffering has ceased, and I want to do so for myself and for all sentient beings.’ The classic Buddhist text, the Thirty-Seven Practices of a Bodhisattva, offers a practical guide on just how to do this. It shows us how to work with our own hearts and minds, starting with how we are now, to unravel our small-minded preoccupations and discover our own vast potential for compassion, love, and wisdom.
For those of you looking to do a little reading in preparation for these teachings please consider:
- Daring Steps: Traversing the Path of the Buddha, Ringu Tulku Rinpoche, 2010, Snow Lion Publications
- The Heart of Compassion, Dilgo Khyentse Rinpoche, 2007, Padmakara Translation Group, Shambhala.
- Rigpa Wiki
Rinpoche has agreed to give a Guru Rinpoche empowerment during the retreat. If you aspire to practise the Vajrayana practices of Rigpa’s lineage, this is a vital step in forming your connection with that lineage and is a precious and rare opportunity. This will only be available to those attending the retreat in person.

The talk series also offers a gateway to understanding the theory of cause and effect, essential to unravelling the reality we perceive. By attending the talk series, you will gain a manual of the mind, explore the science of perception, and hear deeper insights into how we experience the world. This understanding can guide you to uncover inner peace.

Presenting key Buddhist teachings on the powerful logic of compassion and practical methods for developing a more kind relationship with ourselves, those around us and ultimately all beings.
Our innate capacity for empathy is the source of the very best of human qualities: love, kindness, generosity, warm-heartedness, courage … compassion. Although we are born with a vast capacity to love, we may not know how to do so unconditionally, or how to express that love in practice.
When our heart and mind are filled with love, we find the greatest inner healing, tranquillity and well-being. Modern research shows that with empathy and compassion we can be more fully ourselves, connect more easily with others, improve self worth and reduce self-criticism, and lead healthier lives.

The secret to training and transforming your mind with wisdom and compassion
Featuring teachings from Sogyal Rinpoche, Jetsun Khandro Rinpoche and Patrick Gaffney, this weekly course presents the Mahayana Seven Points of Mind Training. These points lay out a path of formal meditation practice, along with guidelines for extending that practice into everyday life.
These teachings are precious and unique in presenting the entire depth and breadth of the Buddha’s Mahayana teachings succinctly and practically. Mahayana mind training offers an approach to life that is straightforward, grounded in sanity, kindness, and compassion. Yet it also offers a vision that completely transcends our ordinary way of viewing ourselves and others, with an all-encompassing vision of enlightenment.
At the heart of this vision of enlightenment is the view that our innate, fundamental identity is vast, luminous and utterly awake. The Mahayana teachings refer to this as our enlightened heart, or bodhicitta. Enlightenment is nothing other than who we really are. But for most of us, our true nature is like a hidden treasure, concealed behind layers of mental activity and preoccupation. Mahayana mind training helps us give expression to our enlightened heart in everything we think, say and do.
Founded on a practice lineage that has been actively practised for hundreds of years, these teachings are completely relevant to the challenges posed by our modern, globalised life.

This talk will explore the concept of “Wise Attention” (Samma-sati) in Buddhist practice, drawing specifically on the teachings of the Sabbasava Sutta from the Pali Canon.
The sutta demonstrates how recognizing and discerning thoughts can prevent suffering and distraction. The talk will delve into the key aspects of the sutta, emphasizing how cultivating mindfulness and awareness in daily life—particularly by paying attention to both the arising and cessation of unwholesome thoughts—can lead to greater clarity, peace, and freedom.
Participants will learn practical techniques for integrating these teachings into their meditation and mindfulness practices.

In a world full of turmoil, stress, anxiety and disconnect, we are all looking for simple, practical ways in which we can nurture our own inner goodness and find the peace and courage to live well.
Geshe Chekawa’s summation of the Tibetan Buddhist guidelines for living a compassionate life, known as the Seven Points of Mind Training, have guided practitioners for more than a thousand years. His pithy slogans open the way for each of us to nurture our own compassionate nature and put compassion into action in everyday life. These slogans offer a vital practical antidote to despair and despondency.
Cultivating Compassion presents teachings on the Seven Points given by Jetsün Khandro Rinpoche accompanied by reflections from Traleg Rinpoche and Ringu Tulku Rinpoche.
Jetsün Khandro Rinpoche is one of the outstanding meditation teachers of our time. She is known for her penetrating wisdom and humour, conveying the Buddhist teachings in a concise and lively manner, enriched with personal anecdotes, which are of particular relevance to the everyday life of the modern, fast-paced world.
From the early 1980s onwards, Traleg Kyabgon Rinpoche was a pioneer in bringing Tibetan Buddhism to Australia and was a strong advocate of non-sectarianism. He taught extensively on many aspects of Buddhist psychology and philosophy, comparative religion, and Buddhist and Western thought.
Ringu Tulku Rinpoche has trained in all schools of Tibetan Buddhism under many great masters including His Holiness the 16th Gyalwa Karmapa and His Holiness Dilgo Khyentse Rinpoche. He is renowned for his ability to transmit complicated teachings with a remarkable warmth and simplicity.
This program is open to all, but does assume some familiarity with meditation and the Buddhist understanding of interdependence.
