Buddhist Council of New South Wales supports a Yes vote

Later this year we will have to vote in a referendum on recognising First Nations people in the constitution and giving them a Voice to advise the government on issues that affect them. Here are some resources to help you and your community understand the referendum. Please share them!

Buddhist Council Videos

Below you will find a range of videos (in a range of community languages) to share.

Developed by representatives of diverse Buddhist communities at a workshop convened by the Buddhist Council of NSW in Sydney on 2nd September 2023:

Buddhist Wisdom for the Referendum

  • Loving kindness and compassion for first Nation Peoples in their journey and sympathetic joy in their achievements
  • Acceptance for those who have different views
  • Equanimity: not being drawn into feelings of fear or pride
  • Understanding the pain and suffering that First Nations People have spoken about and thinking how your vote can help.

Walk with the First Nation Peoples and give them a voice that will promote respect and understanding.
