RELIGIOUS EDUCATION FUND

 
The Buddhist Council of New South Wales is the body recognised by the NSW Department of Education and Training to appoint volunteer teachers of Buddhism in New South Wales Government primary and secondary schools.

There in an increasing number of Buddhist children in schools corresponding to the increasing population of Buddhists.  According to the 2006 Census the number of Buddhists has doubled in the past 10 years to 2.6% of the population of New South Wales and 3.7% of the population of
Sydney
.  At the same time, there is waiting list for volunteer teachers of Buddhism in schools. 

In response, the Buddhist Council of New South Wales has a new program to: 
·       Train new teachers 
·       Conduct “in-service” workshops to develop the skills of existing volunteer teachers 
·       Develop new education materials 
·       Operate a Special Fund to cover expenses 

This Religious Education Fund was approved by the Australian Tax Office in 2007 for tax deductibility and can help to cover teacher travel expenses, education materials, workshops for teachers, induction training excursions to temples.
