Other Spiritual Care Projects

If you have interest in any of these projects please email us at spiritualcare@buddhistcouncil.org

Spiritual Aged care. Our society is aging and we need to develop more opportunities for the elderly. Many retirees would like a low maintenance residential lifestyle but with a spiritual context.

Nursing homes. When the elderly need carers, or become dependent on others for basic necessities, they need people to visit and brighten their lives with music, conversation, massage or other therapies.

Hospices. The terminally ill need special care and the application of the Buddha’s teachings can greatly enhance the quality of life of those with little time remaining.

Disaster chaplaincy. The Buddhist Council already has two of its chaplains trained for disaster situations. Over time we would like to train more people to provide this special service.

Mental health. There seems to be an increasing prevalence of what is called mental illness. Some of our chaplains are taking additional training in this specialised area.

Juvenile justice. The Buddhist Council would like to start providing chaplaincy and pastoral care to those younger ones in our society who have had a difficult upbringing and require support in leading a better life.

Ex-inmates Half-way House. While some inmates have the benefit of visits from a Buddhist chaplain while in a correctional facility, after they are released they need encouragement and support in learning necessary life skills.
