Chaplaincy Program Coordinator(s)
There are about 25 volunteer chaplains visiting prisons and hospitals. You can help in any one or more of the following: record-keeping (Excel), admin (sending standard letters), follow up (contacting hospitals and chaplains), organising 3-monthly peer support workshops, posting books, brochures, beads, etc to chaplains for them to give to patients and inmates. We are in the process of developing a Chaplaincy Practice Guide for Buddhist Chaplains. We have 3 on this team but we need more.

Event Management Team
The Event Management Team organises events undertaken by the Buddhist Council of f NSW. These events may be conducted in our Crows Nest premises or at other locations. The Event Management Team will be responsible for logistics, venue setup, catering, equipment and ensuring that the event runs smoothly.

Fundraising Coordinator
As a charitable organisations dependent upon donations the Buddhist Council of NSW needs a sustainable supply of funds to maintain our operations and services to members. The Fundraising Coordinator works closely with the marketing team to build a sustainable funding stream, from a variety of sources.

Infoline Service Team
The Buddhist Council of NSW gets many questions from students and the general public on questions that relate to basic Buddhism, where to find Buddhist groups and temples, or where to find people who can assist in Buddhist weddings and funerals. The Infoline Service Team responds to these questions which can be received in the form of a phone call, letter or email.

Marketing / Public Relations Coordinator
This role takes care of marketing and public relations, which includes implementing the communications strategy, liaising with the media, preparing press releases, responding to questions from the media and publicising events.

Member Services Team
The first part of the Buddhist Council’s mission is to help its members, who are temples and Buddhist societies. The Member Services Team responds to questions from member organisations and tries to find a starting point to the solution to the problem. This could involve giving preliminary advice to the member organisation on compliance with rules and regulations set by government, developing a constitution, advising on visa applications, development applications, taxation, fundraising, marketing, technology, insurance or some other issue of relevance to the member organisation.

Metta Portal
The Metta Portal (metta.org.au) provides small Buddhist organisations with a cheaper, easier and more effective way to use the internet. The Metta Portal provides a selection of pre-designed website templates with the features required by a Buddhist temple or society. Because Metta Portal uses a content management system the web pages are easy for non-technical people to update. The Metta Portal also automatically advertises events and projects through a sophisticated search tool. We need more IT trained professionals to join the Metta portal customer service team.

Office Support
The Office Support role undertakes a variety of tasks under the direction of the Office Manager. Examples include tidying the premises, watering plants, cleaning the kitchen, letter preparation, filing, packing free books for posting, packing books and other materials for volunteer teachers and chaplains, maintaining bookshelves, and maintaining the reference library.

School Education (SRE) Program Support
We have about 80 volunteer teachers, but 40 schools on the waiting list who have a class without a Buddhist scripture teacher. We have lots of books, materials and DVDs we need to send out to teachers. You can help in record-keeping (Excel), admin (sending standard letters), follow up (contacting teachers or schools), organising workshops, posting out materials, etc. We are in the process of improving our syllabus and putting it online. We have 4 on this team but we need more support.

Vice President – Internal (Board position)
The VP-Internal is a board position responsible for representing the Buddhist Council of NSW to its members. The role includes developing relationships and understanding th eissues and challenges of the 100+ member organisations of the Buddhist Council of NSW.

Volunteer Coordinator
The Buddhist Council operates with the help of dozens of volunteers from all Buddhist traditions, a wide range of ages and professions, and a variety of cultures and backgrounds. The Volunteer Coordinator works closely with the Office Manager and the other coordinators to make sure that the precious time of our volunteers is used effectively and efficiently. The Volunteer Coordinator tries to utilise the strengths of volunteers and at the same time tries to create an enjoyable and fulfilling environment for the volunteers. The Volunteer Coordinator organises induction workshops as well as periodic workshops to inform our volunteers.

Webmaster
The Buddhist Council of NSW needs to maintain a sophisticated website to support its members, chaplains and teachers, hospitals and schools, media, government agencies, Buddhist temples and societies and the general public. The website has been professionally designed and uses a content management system called Drupal which makes updates relatively easy. The Webmaster updates the website and has editorial control over content.
