Education Fund. There is an increasing number of Buddhist children in schools corresponding to the increasing population of Buddhists (doubling in the past 10 years according to the ABS). The result is a waiting list for volunteer Buddhist teachers. The Buddhist Council runs a program to teach Buddhist scripture which trains new teachers; conducts “in-service” workshops; develops the skills of existing volunteer teachers; develops new education materials; supports excursions to temples and contributes towards out-of-pocket expenses of teachers.
Tax Deductible Donations. We have been approved by the Australian Taxation Office to operate a tax deductible fund for Buddhist education in schools. If you wish to support Buddhist education in schools, please mail us a cheque made out to "Buddhist Council Education Fund". Please provide your address and we will send you a tax deductible receipt.
Sources Of Funds. The Buddhist Council of New South Wales depends for its existence on the financial support of its member organisations and donations from the community. Most of our funding comes from donations from members (there are NO annual fees to members and NO joining fees) and increasingly, donations from the general public.
Use of funds. We publish our audited accounts each year after our Annual General Meeting. Our annual accounts show that approximately 70% of our expenditure goes towards rent and utilities, which works out at approximately $100 per day.
Value for Money. Hundreds of hours of volunteer time are spent each week for the operation of the Buddhist Council of New South Wales and its community based activities. If these hours were costed at $20 per hour this volunteer time would be valued at $4,000 per week or $200,000 p.a.
We value feedback. It is important that we provide what our members need and to properly represent Buddhism in the general community. Only in this way will we justify the donations and support we receive. If you have any advice or suggestions about how we can do our work better, please call us or email us.
